How to Solve Microsoft Office cannot Verify the License for this Product Error

If you are using Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Office 2016 or Microsoft Office 2013, Sometimes you may face an error that “Microsoft Office cannot verify the license for this product” when you try to open any Microsoft Office Application like : PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook etc.


The reason may be: Microsoft Office Application is running in compatibility mode for a different operating system.


How to Solve Microsoft Office cannot verify the license for this product error:


To Solve this error, follow these steps:


1. Close All the Microsoft Office Applications.


2. Locate your Microsoft Office application, depending on your installation type of Outlook and bitness of Windows and Outlook:


MSI-Based installation type:

<disk drive>\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office1x
<disk drive>\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office1x


Click-to-Run installation type:

<disk drive>\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office1x
<disk drive>\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office1x


3. Open the properties of yhe microsoft offioce application, in which error is triggered.


4. Click on Compatibility & follow the prompts.


  • Clear the Run this program in compatibility mode for option.
  • Click : Change setting for all users.
  • On the Compatibility for all users tab, clear the Run this program in compatibility
    mode for option.
  • Click OK two times.


5. If there is no tab of compatibility, then follow these steps:


  • Right-click Outlook.exe, and then select Troubleshoot compatibility.
  • Select Troubleshoot Program.
  • Clear all options, and then click Next.
  • Select the No, I am done investigating the problem option, and then click Next.
  • Click Close.
